It's as thrilling and nerve-racking as ever when you're facing enemies that punish foolhardiness in measured third-person combat. The bosses and tricky enemy mobs in Elden Ring will test your patience and skills, whether you're a mage or wielding a sword and shield.

Although there are many key locations in this open world that evoke Soulsborne's enclosed, directed gameplay experience, the open world does also represent a newer gameplay experience that emphasizes freedom and player agency. There are many places where From Software continues to do what it does best, such as Stormvale Castle, Redmane Castle, and Raya Lucaria, to create visually striking locations that are intricately designed so that they loop and weave in on themselves in a way that makes them as perilous as they are joyous. I couldn't help but marvel at the craftsmanship displayed in each of the key locations in the game. There are some sights in this game that make you wonder how the minds behind it came up with them.

Elden Ring gets a lot of attention for George R.R. Martin, but there's not much that stands out in Elden Ring. This game is unmistakably Hidetaka Miyazaki, and from the From Software team--and it's all fascinating. From the characters to the narrative to the way it's delivered in broken pieces. There are many memorable characters in the expansive world Martin helped build with his help, so I won't talk about it, but I won't deprive you and the Soulsborne community of one of the greatest joys of a new From Software game. There are mysterious motivations and tragic fates for some. From Software lore video industrial complex is bursting with conflicting ideologies, divine entities, and clandestine groups. We can only piece things together as a collective once the entire community gets involved. I only know a little of what's going on, but I can't wait for it to get worse.
